Freshmen Softball Duo Sweep KJCCC Player of the Week Awards
One week into the season, and a pair of Seward softball freshmen have earned KJCCC Division 1 Player and Pitcher of the Week awards, the league announced Tuesday.
Taylor Harding, a freshman utility player from Liberal, earned Player of the Week honors. Liberty Sharman, a freshman pitcher from Chilliwack, B.C., Canada, earned Pitcher of the Week.
The pair helped Seward get off to a 4-0 start to the season with four wins over Lamar CC, two in Lamar on Saturday and two at French Family Field Sunday.
Harding paced the Saints offensively over the weekend. She led Seward with eight hits in 13 at-bats for a .615 average and .643 on-base percentage. The Liberal, Kansas, native also scored a team-high seven runs, drove in three runs, and stole two bases. She recorded multiple hits in three of the Saints four games. In center field, Harding recorded 11 putouts with no errors.
Sharman threw a team-high 8.1 innings, recording a win and a save. Allowing just two earned runs on five hits across her three appearances, Sharman struck out six. Sharman recorded a 2.1-inning save on Saturday, allowing no runs before tossing 4.0 innings with three strikeouts to earn her first collegiate win on Sunday.

Seward returns to the field on Friday playing at North Central Texas College in Gainesville, Texas, before taking on No. 1-ranked NJCAA Division 2 foe Murray State in Tishomingo, Okla., on Saturday.
