GOODLAND, Kan. – After coming off battering losses, the Seward County Community College softball team was one to do the battering this time around with a pair of blow-out wins, 27-0 and 17-8, at Fort Hay Tech Northwest on Thursday.
Seward fell at Butler Wednesday, but bounced back with the dominant victories, improving to 7-15 in the Jayhawk Conference and 13-23 overall. After back-to-back road games, the Lady Saints host Hutchinson on Sunday at French Family Field. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Admission is free.
GAME ONE
The Lady Saints scored 14 runs in the first two innings and waltzed to a 27-0 run-rule shutout victory over the Tigers in five innings in game one.
Seward added another 13 runs in the fourth inning to complete the scoring for the game. Joelee Limon and Clarissa DeLaFuente each had four hits with five RBI and Corlyn McGaha and Danica Kowalik each chipped with three hits for the Lady Saints, who pounded out 22 hits.
Kynleigh Kirby and Lynnette Hernandez blanked the Tigers, combining to allow three hits, six strikeouts and two walks over five innings.
GAME TWO
Seward scored 10 runs less than the opener, but it was still plenty enough for the win, 17-8, against Fort Hays Tech Northwest in the nightcap.
The Lady Saints opened a 6-0 lead through the first two innings before the Tigers scored for the first time in the afternoon. Fort Hays Tech four runs in the bottom of the second inning to trim the deficit to 6-4.
Seward kept the pressure on notching five more runs through the fifth inning and closing its scoring with six runs over the final two innings. The Tigers scored three runs in the fifth inning and their final run in the seventh for the final margin of 17-8.
Jahlisa Klear went 5-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored and Brooklynn Castagnetta and Emily Lane drove in three runs each to pace Seward's 17-hit attack. The Lady Saints also got contributions from Alyssa Morgan, Danica Kowalik and Kynleigh Kirby, who each drove in two runs.
