Men’s Soccer Opens Season With Home Win Over Trinidad State

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward men's soccer team picked up a 2-0 win over Trinidad State in front of a rowdy crowd at Redskin Field on Saturday evening in the Saints home opener.

Seward (1-0) used a goal in each half and a strong defensive effort  to secure the win as Trinidad State (0-2) mustered just three shots and one shot on goal with Seward keeper Miguel Kwiatkowski recording a save.

The Saints used consistent offensive pressure outshooting the Trojans 7-2 in the first half and 10-1 in the second half.

Freshman forward Suain Moncayo, a Liberal High School product, netted the first goal of the season for Seward 30 minutes into the first half as sophomore defender Gustavo Chaves placed a ball perfectly in the box for Moncayo to head in.

Sophomore midfielder Simone Pitale scored the second goal at the 68:11 mark off an assist from freshman Melvin Soto.

Seward used 24 different players in the game with TSC only having 11 suited up.

The Saints return to Redskin Field on Saturday, Aug. 30th, for a 6 p.m. matchup with Tabor College.
