Seward Basketball Squads Give Fans 1st Look at Saints Basketball Preview Night

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County men's and women's basketball teams held the Saints Basketball Preview Night on Saturday night at The Greenhouse.

Following Seward volleyball's match with Hutchinson at home, fans stuck around to get their first glimpse at the 2025-26 basketball squads.

Voice of the Saints Brock Kappelmann introduced each member of both teams before the competitions got underway.

A team dribble relay saw two men's teams and two women's teams face off against each other. The winner of each faced off against each other with the women's squad, captained by Au'Rayona Seals, winning over the men.

Children from the crowd then got involved with a big game of musical chairs at center court as the contestants were surrounded by the Saints teams cheering them on.

Both teams then competed in a three point contest with Quincey Kidd of the men's team and Avery Marchino of the women's team battling in the championship round. Marchino took the win by a close margin.

Bailey Milligan, Brevyn Coleman and Lyna Brooks Jr. took part in a dunk contest with the judge panel consisting of SCCC President, Brad Bennett, Saints Bookstore Director Brandee Good and head softball coach Kimber Cortemelia. Milligan earned the win on a dunk that landed a perfect score.

Both teams then held a 12-minute running clock scrimmage to cap the events. Following both scrimmages, fans filed down onto the court as players sat at tables and signed team photos and schedule posters. Giveaways included t-shirts, wristbands, schedule magnets and more

Both squads get their seasons underway on Friday, Oct. 31st, in La Junta, Colo., at the Otero Classic.
