2021 Women's Basketball Preview

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Community College Women's basketball program enters the 2021 spring season a top contender in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West preseason coaches' poll. In the first week of the NJCAA national poll, the Lady Saints received votes and the team looks to make a statement in their first week of action.

Head Coach Todd Ciochetto has brought speed, shooters, and a full-court defensive scheme to this year's team that has the capability to score in abundance. Coach Ciochetto discussed his teams' style "We are going to play full court, we are going to push the ball, we are going to shoot a lot of threes and we are going to sub a lot." Last season at North Iowa Area Community College Coach Ciochetto's s team averaged 90 points per game and made 12.4 threes per game.

Five players transferred to Seward County from NIACC during the offseason and three of them started for the 32-1 team. Sierra Morrow is a transfer sophomore and averaged 15 points per game, eight rebounds, and 4.8 blocks for the Trojans last season. Morrow will be a dominant force for the Lady Saints from block to block and has the capabilities to step out and shoot from behind the arc.

The Lady Saints travel to Iola, Kansas for their first game of the season to take on Allen Community College on Wednesday (January 27th, 2021) at 6 pm. The Lady Devils have already played two games this season and are currently 0-2 overall. Their leading scorer is Hallie Reed, who is a freshman guard from Vinita, Oklahoma, averaging 12 points per game.

"This is big for our first game, we are going to press, and we might make some mistakes, but we are going to live with those." Coach Ciochetto discusses the mindset going into the first game of the season. "We are going to use this game to get better and get into some of our stuff and adjust from there."
