  • 16 Seward Student-Athletes Honored in Record NJCAA Academic Award Class

    If classroom performance is any judge of it, there are going to be a record number of former NJCAA student-athletes making their mark on the working world in two years as the NJCAA announced on Wednesday that a record 2,026 athletes, including 16 Seward County Saints and Lady Saints from six different teams have earned NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards, formerly known as the NJCAA’s Academic All-American award.
  • Lopez & Coyos Become Seward's First Two Time ITA All-American's

    For the second straight year, Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos will pack a little bit heavier bag for their trips back home to Argentina as Tuesday, the dynamic duo was named ITA All-American’s for the second straight year, the first time any Seward players have ever accomplished the feat. Lopez was named an All-American in both singles and doubles for the second straight season while Coyos picked up her second consecutive ITA All-American award in doubles.

    For the first time in school history, the Seward County Lady Saints Tennis Team has finished inside the top 10 at the NJCAA National Tournament. Seward finished 9th in the 27 team event on Thursday, wrapping up a historical week that included a trip to the National Championship match at #1 doubles and a pair of trips to the National Semifinals at #1 and #2 singles.

  • Big Signing Day For Saints Tennis

    Three Seward County Tennis players signed on the dotted line Thursday afternoon in the All-American Room at SCCC marking one of the biggest signing days for the Seward tennis program. Ronzai Saurombe signed to play at Gonzaga next season while doubles partners Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos will play together once again at West Florida.

    The Seward County Lady Saints finished as runners-up at this weekend’s Region VI Championships in Arkansas City to punch their second straight ticket to the NJCAA National Tournament. Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos led the way for Seward, each winning their singles brackets while combining to dominate the #1 doubles bracket in the tournament.

  • Coyos/Lopez Shine to Wrap Seminole Tourney

    Seward County sophomores Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos all but wrapped up the #1 seed in #1 doubles for the NJCAA National Tournament next month on Saturday as the nation’s 2nd ranked pair going into the weekend, not only defeated a national contender from Seminole State, but also upset the #1 ranked duo from Tyler to improve to 11-0 on the year. Outside of the Argentinians, the Lady Saints struggled though, losing 7-2 to Tyler and 6-3 to Seminole to fall to 4-7 as a team on the season.
  • Lady Saints Go 1-1 Against Fellow Top 25 Squads

    It was a step in the right direction for the #14 Seward County Lady Saints Friday afternoon in Oklahoma City as they took the court against #22 Jacksonville and #13 Collin County. Seward earned a solid 6-3 win over the Jaguars in their first match before dropping a hard fought 5-4 decision to Collin to wrap up the day.

    Seward County Tennis Coach Darin Workman saw the improvement despite the results for his Lady Saints over the past couple of weeks, but Tuesday on the road at Barton, Workman saw the improvement finally pay off as the Lady Saints walloped Jayhawk rival Barton 8-1 to even up their season record at 3-3.

    Seward County’s Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos continued to dominate the competition at the top of the Lady Saints lineup Friday afternoon in Salina as Seward took on Kansas Wesleyan, but unfortunately for the gals in green, the Argentinians were the only two to earn wins against the Coyotes as Seward fell 6-3 to drop to 1-2 on the season.

    A total of 113 Seward County student-athletes combined for an overall GPA of 3.16 for the Fall 2014 semester with 74 Saints and Lady Saints named to the Athletic Directors Honor Roll with 9 receiving a perfect 4.0 GPA.
  • Saints & Lady Saints Open 2015 Ranked in ITA Top 10

    Following a very successful fall semester on courts around the Midwest, the Seward County Saints and Lady Saints Tennis teams have been given their due recognition as the Lady Saints will open 2015 ranked #5 in the country by the ITA and the Saints begin the 2015 campaign ranked #6 nationally. Along with the team rankings, six Saints and four Lady Saints are ranked inside the individual or doubles top 50.
  • Lady Saints Fall in National Title Match

    The Seward County Lady Saints duo of Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos had been unstoppable all season long this fall, but the pair was stopped at just the wrong time on Saturday, falling in the ITA National Championship match by perennial power Tyler to end their National Tournament in 2nd place. In singles action Paula Lopez was also knocked off by a Lady Apache in the semifinals but bounced back to finish 3rd in the tournament.

    The dominance continued on the big stage this afternoon in Sumter, South Carolina for Lady Saints Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos as the duo went 2-0 in doubles together to march on to the National Championship match on Friday while Lopez won her 1st round match in singles to advance to Friday's semifinal round.
  • Seward Wins Top Two Titles, Struggles at the Bottom

    It was the same script for the Seward County Lady Saints on day two of the New Mexico Military Invitational in Roswell, New Mexico on Saturday, championships at the top of their lineup and major struggles at the bottom. In Flight A singles Paula Lopez earned the tournament championship over teammate Paula Coyos and the two combined to win the Flight A doubles title as well, but other than that, it was 1-7 with their only win coming in an intersquad matchup.

    For the third time in four outs this fall, it will be yet another all Seward County final in Flight A singles on Saturday as Lady Saint sophomores Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos cruised to the finals Friday at the New Mexico Military Invitational in Roswell, New Mexico.
  • Lady Saints Top Pair Steals the Show Again at ITA Regionals

    It is hard to say if Seward County’s tennis duo of Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos can get much hotter right now on the hard court. After all, the pair is a combined 25-2 on the year (with one of those losses coming head to head) while capturing tournament titles at all three of the Lady Saints competitions to start the year. This weekend was no different as the pair cruised to the ITA Regional Championship in doubles, losing just three total games in three matches, to qualify for the ITA National Tournament in Sumter, South Carolina in two weeks, while Lopez didn’t drop a set in her run to the singles title, getting her toughest competition in the semifinals against her teammate Coyos.
  • Lopez & Coyos Dominate Metro State Invitational Once Again

    For the second straight year, Seward County’s Paula Lopez and Paula Coyos painted the Metro State Invitational Tournament in Denver, Colorado completely green and white. A year after combining to go 10-0, winning tournament titles in both singles and doubles in the Flight A draw, the duo repeated, each reaching the finals in the top draw, where they shared the singles championship before blowing away the competition in the Flight A doubles draw to win their second straight title there as well.
