Lady Saints-Barton Preview

LIBERAL, Kan. – The Lady Saints look to get back on the winning track when they host the Barton Lady Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Greenhouse.

Seward is coming off a 66-48 loss at No.5 Dodge City on Saturday. The teams played tight throughout the first half with the Lady Conquistadors holding a 35-32 advantage after two quarters.

Things went south in the third quarter for Seward as Dodge City went on a 7-0 run to hold a 10-point margin at 42-32 with 6:32 remaining. The lead for Dodge City ballooned to 15 after three quarters at 53-38 and the Lady Conquistadors never looked back.

The Lady Saints, who had their winning streak snapped at four games, dropped to 3-2 in the Jayhawk Conference and 8-3 overall.

Allie Myers had her best game of the season with 17 points and 11 rebounds in the loss. Myers is averaging 7.7 points and 7.7 rebounds on the season. Kylee Hunt leads Seward in scoring with 13.7 points, and second in rebounding at 5.2 rebounds. Ari Gordon is averaging 10.3 points and 2.4 steals.

The Lady Cougars snapped a five-game losing streak and earned their first conference win with a 71-37 drubbing of Pratt on Saturday.  Barton is 1-5 in the Jayhawk and 5-7 overall.

Barton is led by 6-2 sophomore Vivian Onugha, who leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 14.5 points and 15.2 rebounds. She also shoots 56.3 from the field. Alaina Eck is averaging 10.8 points and 4.3 rebounds and Brittany Simpson averaging 9 points and 4 rebounds for the Lady Cougars.

This will also be a homecoming for Keyona Hall. The Liberal resident and former Lady Redskin has played in every game for Barton, averaging 3.5 points and 2 rebounds.

The Lady Saints were swept by the Lady Cougars last season, losing 77-48 at the Greenhouse and 70-62 at Barton.
