Lady Saints-Butler Preview
LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Community College Lady Saints host the Butler Community College Grizzlies at 5:30 p.m. tonight in the Greenhouse.
The Lady Saints are 1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference and 5-2 overall. Seward is coming off a split of a two-game, road trip, losing at Cloud County, 57-53, on Wednesday and winning at Cowley, 71-64, on Saturday.
Sophomore Kylee Hunt continues to power the Seward offense, averaging a team-leading 15.9 points along with 6.0 rebounds. Not surprisingly, Hunt has been the team's top scorer in five of the seven games.
The Lady Saints are sophomore-heavy with returnees in Allie Myers (8 ppg, 8.8 rpg) Ari Gordon (9 ppg. 4 rpg), Kezia Grant-Bobb (6.6 ppg, 3.4 rpg), Biyyanah Ellis (4.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg), and Sanaa Dennis (1.9, 3.4 rpg).
Freshman Avery Marchino also has been a strong contributor, averaging 8.4 points, including a 10-point effort against Cowley.
Seward has been strong defensively, holding opponents to 54.4 ppg. overall and 60.5 ppg. in conference play.
Butler heads into tonight's contest ranked 23th in the nation, sporting an undefeated record at 6-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
The Grizzlies are coming off a 103-40 home victory over Pratt on Saturday. Alba Cunill had 17 points and Ashley Singhateh netted 15 points for Butler, which had every player score.
Keegan Yarick (14.7 ppg), Destiny Smith (10.7 ppg) and Singhateh (14.2 ppg), all freshmen, leads the Grizzlies, who are averaging 84.8 ppg.
