Saints start fall season in Tyler, Texas

TYLER, Tex. - Seward County Community College opened their fall season last weekend at Tyler, Texas where they competed against Division II, Division III, NAIA, and NJCAA programs. The Men's tennis team had a great showing in Tyler with three student-athletes in the finals of their respected singles draws, and Luke Quaynor won his draw at flight four. In doubles Seward County had just one doubles team make it to the final match of their draws and that was Luciano Fisicaro and Karlo Krolo in the flight one draw.

In singles, the Saints competed 14 individuals and had multiple players in each draw. Luciano Fisicaro and Kyllian Savary were both in flight one with both winning their first match but Savary lost in the semifinals. Fisicaro defeated former Saint Sander Jans in the first round but lost in the finals to Tyler Junior Colleges' number one. For flight two Juan Gonzalez and Karlo Krolo competed on opposite sides of the bracket but Karlo entered the back draw after a first-round loss. Karlo went on to lose in the finals of the back draw with a third set tiebreaker 10-8. Gonzalez won his first match but fell in the semifinals but bounced back to win the third-place match 7-6, 6-4.

For the third flight, Martins Abamu and Enzo Frequelin competed but Frequelin entered the back draw after a first-round loss. Abamu won his first two matches to make it to the finals but had to retire in the final match due to injury. Jonas Mathiason and Luke Quaynor competed in flight four that was based on pool play. Mathiason went 0-2 in pool play and won his final match 6-2, 6-3. Quaynor went 2-0 in pool play and won the final match in a third set tiebreaker 10-3. 

Franco Vecchia competed in flight five but came up short 0-2 in pool play and won the final match due to his opponent retiring. In the sixth flight, Lucas Gonzalez Ramirez won his first match but lost the second match in straight sets. Ramirez won the third-place match with back-to-back set tie break wins to close out the weekend. Sebastian Holden and Ugo Fiorito competed in flight seven and Fiorito lost his first match but bounced back to win his second match. Holden swept his pool play to make it to the finals where he face fellow Saint Fiorito and Holden won the final match 6-0, and 7-5.

For the flight one doubles draw Abamu and Savary were on one side of the bracket while Fisicaro and Krolo were on the other side. Abamu and Savary lost their first two matches but won their final match 6-1 on the backside of the bracket. Fisicaro and Krolo won their first two matches but fell in the final match 7-5 to the same doubles team that defeated Abamu and Savary in the first round. In the second flight of doubles, Gonzalez/ Vecchia, and Mathiason/ Quaynor both lost their first match but won their second match to compete against each other in the finals of the backside of the flight. They did not play their final match due to a time restriction.

In the third flight of doubles Fiorito/ Frequelin and Burton/ Holden competed in the pool play. Fiorito and Frequelin lost the two matches in pool play but won their final match 6-4. Burton and Holden split their pool play and won their third-place match 6-3. 

The Saints are back in action this weekend September 10th and 11th at Metro State University in Denver, Colorado.
