Saints Esports Weekly Recap (9/29-10/3)
Week two of competition for Seward County Community College Esports has come and gone. Take a look at how the team performed below.
Monday:
Marvel Rivals – The Rivals team (Marcos Montoya, Josef Peppa, Benjamin Washburn, Nicolas Benson, Edward Rios and Angel Roberts) went up against Missouri State University West Plains. The Saints struggled in a tight contest but lost the set 0 – 3. Their record is 0 – 2.
Tuesday:
Super Smash Bros Ultimate Green team (Johnathan Dominguez) was in the arena against Lorain County Community College. Dominguez would rough up the LCCC player and win the set 3 - 0. His record is 1 – 1.
SSBU Black Team (Emir Darza) had a comeback story this week. He faced off against Southern State Community College. Darza handled his foe easily, winning 3 - 0. His record is 1 – 1.
SSBU White Team (Tien Nguyen) blanked his opponent from Navarro College 3 – 0. His record moves to 2 – 0.
SSBU Silver Team (Ian Cruz) fought against Carl Albert State College. Cruz took one set off his opponent but fell on the night 1 – 3. His record is 0 – 2.
Fortnite White Team (Jess Johnson and Alexis Armendariz faced off against interschool rivals the Green team (Cameron Walker and Eli Hackett). Walker and Hackett came out swinging the first set, easily defeating Johnson and Armendariz. The White team took the second set, but Green team fought back in the third. Green team won the set 2 – 1. Their record is 1 – 0. White team lost the set, bringing their record to 1 – 1
White Team took advantage of the multiple queue times and played again later that evening against Alvin Community College. White team had something to prove in their 2 – 0 win against ACC. The White team moves to 2 – 1 on the season.
Fortnite Black Team (Henry Perez and Osiel Ventura) took on Lake Region State College. Perez and Ventura fairly dominated the LRSC crew, winning the set 2 - 0. Their record goes to 2 – 0.
Wednesday:
Madden Green Team (Akele Powdrill) blanked his set against Northwest College. Powdrill took the night 2 - 0. His record improves to 2 - 0.
Mario Kart 4v4 (Joshua Vasquez, Juan Acevedo, Emir Darza, and Edward Rios) received another unscheduled bye for the second week in a row. Coach Volden explains, "With the changes to the queue system, it's not uncommon for teams to receive bye weeks. It comes down to uneven registration and participation in the NJCAAE. If there are an odd number of teams, someone will sit out that week. Our matches are randomly generated each day. We just got the short end of the stick twice in a row."
Thursday:
Street Fighter 6 Green Team (Johnathan Dominguez) was in the ring against Walters State Community College on Thursday night. Dominguez had a hard time against the WSCC player, falling 0 – 3 on the set. His record drops to 0 – 2.
The Saints Rocket League Duo (Asher Waite and Brian Amador) took to the virtual pitch against Southwestern Community College. The Saints looked a little sluggish and had a hard time countering SWCC's aerial acrobatics. The Saints lost 1 – 3. Their record moves to 1 – 1.
Mario Kart White Team (Jess Johnson) took on another player from Highland Community College this week. Johnson blanked his opponent 4 – 0. His record is 2 – 0
Mario Kart Emerald (Juan Acevedo) raced against Marshalltown for his second match of the season. Acevedo won handily, beating MCC 4 – 0. His record is 2 – 0
Mario Kart Green (Joshua Vasquez) had a back and forth battle against Herkimer County Community College, going 6 rounds in the best of 7. In the end, Vasquez came out on top winning the set 4 – 2. His record is 1 – 0.
Mario Kart Black (Edward Rios) raced against North Arkansas College in his best of 7 set. Rios thoroughly dominated his opponent, winning 4 – 0. His record improves to 1 – 1.
