LIBERAL, Kan. – The Seward County Saints Tennis team continues to win at home this week, this time defeating conference rival Cowley College 9-0. The Saints have one more match at home on Saturday to see if they can pull off a 4-0 home game winning streak in a single week.
Though Seward won 9-0, during the match, it felt like it was anyone's game with some very close matches. In doubles play, No.2 was first to finish with Saints team Tim Lamare and Duro Opacic defeating pair Killian Dagneaux and Casey Edwards 8-2. Next was No.1 Nicolas Rousset and Hugo Lobo who won 8-6 over Angelo Vasuro Ito Tost and Bruno Hidoka Suiama in a back and forth match. Final to finish was No.3, Benji Finet and Carlo Izurieta who defeated Tigers Gaston Walitzky and Valter Kenji Imura Oshiro 9-7.
Singles play was just as close as doubles. First to finish was No.6 Diego Freire who won against Dagneaux 6-2, 6-0. Following him was No.3 Lobo who defeated Wlayimer Jimenez 6-4,6-3 and clenched the match for the Saints. Next was No.1 Opacic who played a tight match against Tost and won 6-4, 7-6.
The next three was No.2, No.4, and No.5. Playing No.2 was Rousset who played a long match against Suiama and won 7-5, 7-5. Next No.4 Lamare defeated Oshiro 6-2, 6-0, and finally No.5 Izurieta who won against Nicholas Mougaillard 6-2, 7-6.
The Saints are now 21-1 overall and 2-0, undefeated in conference play. Seward County tennis will be at home at Bluebonnet Park this Saturday, March 10th against Hesston College at 11 a.m. for their final home match of March.
